Serious Injury Crash on the Sagtikos State Parkway
On November 5, 2022, shortly after 12:30 AM, the State Police responded to multiple calls of a crash on the southbound Sagtikos State Parkway just south of exit S1E, town of Islip, Suffolk County.
Preliminary investigation revealed, a 2012 Honda Civic, driven by Daycnee Vanderveer, 36 of Rockville Centre, NY, was traveling southbound on the Sagtikos State Parkway when her vehicle became disabled in the right lane due to a flat tire. Vanderveer exited the vehicle and walked to the back of the vehicle to open the trunk.
A second vehicle, a 2012 Honda Civic, driven by Kevin Rosasdaqui, 25 of Brooklyn, NY, was traveling southbound on the Sagtikos State Parkway in the right lane when he struck Vanderveer and rear ended her vehicle. The impact severed both of Vanderveer’s legs.
Two Suffolk County Police Officers, one on-duty and one off-duty, were driving by the crash, stopped on the scene and immediately applied a tourniquet to Vanderveer’s legs. These life-saving measures provided precious time for Vanderveer to be rushed to Stony Brook Medical Center where she went straight into surgery and is currently in critical, but stable condition.
Two passengers from the second vehicle where taken to South Shore University Hospital with non-life-threating injuries and a third passenger from the second vehicle was uninjured.
Rosasdaqui was also taken to South Shore University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Rosasdaqui was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated at this time pending further investigation.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) and Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) all responded to the scene to investigate.
