AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. New Law: Being Intoxicated in Public is a Crime in Babylon

You can now face a fine and imprisonment for being drunk in public in the town of Babylon.

We know going behind the wheel to drive while intoxicated is a crime, well now you can add public drunkenness as well if you’re in the town of Babylon.

On Thursday, the Babylon Town Board approved a bill that made into law that appearing intoxicated in public or at cabarets and dance halls is a misdemeanor.

There was a unanimous vote of approval for the bill.

Those in violation as first-time offenders may receive a fine ranging from $250 to $1,000 or up to 90 days of imprisonment. Repeat offenders can face fines of up to $5,000.

Public drunkenness is measured based on anyone with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or more.

The Town also has consumption and open-container laws in place already.
