Shirley, NY - November 8, 2016 - Four Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section officers freed an infant’s hand that was stuck in a bathtub drain at a Shirley home this morning.
Emergency Service Section Officers Steven Bardak, Mark Collins, James Jackson and Michael Viruet responded to a home on Rowlinson Drive after a 911 caller reported a 1-year-old female had gotten her hand stuck in a bathtub drain. The officers worked for approximately 20 minutes to cut out a chunk of the bathtub around the girl’s hand.
The child, with the chunk of bathtub still attached to her hand, was transported by Mastic Ambulance Company to Stony Brook University Hospital. The four officers along with hospital personnel worked for two hours to remove the bathtub from the child’s hand. The girl is expected to make a full recovery.
