Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and NYS Assemblyman Phil Ramos revealed the revitalized Ross Memorial Park in Brentwood. The park, previously marred by homelessness, illicit drug dealings, and clashes with law enforcement, was closed by Town officials in September 2020 following Suffolk County Police Department's identification of it as a "hot spot" for illegal activities and loitering.

Fulfilling a commitment made three years ago, Supervisor Carpenter and Assemblyman Ramos officially opened the doors to the upgraded park, joining the celebration with local community members. Notable features of the park makeover include a newly constructed parking lot for convenient family access, a modern playground structure with safety play surfaces, enhanced perimeter fencing, a new pavilion, walking paths, and improved lighting structures.

"Every resident in our Town deserves a high quality of life and access to safe spaces where they can enjoy a day out with their children," said Carpenter.

Ongoing enhancements in the park encompass the installation of benches around the playground, electrical components (sound/lighting) for the pavilion—envisioned as a new hub for community gatherings—game tables, picnic areas, and a storage shed.

"For too long, this park was plagued by illegal activities and homelessness. Through collaborative efforts with Assemblyman Phil Ramos, we have successfully transformed it into a family destination,” Carpenter said. “With the addition of this beautiful pavilion, it will serve as a cultural centerpiece for the Brentwood community and the entire Town.”
