AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after his vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian in Central Islip early this morning.

Central Islip, NY - November 13, 2015 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after his vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian in Central Islip early this morning.

James Fitzpatrick, 37, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado westbound on Suffolk Avenue when his vehicle struck Robert Fornasier at 12:13 a.m. Fornasier, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Fitzpatrick, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 13.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
