Wantagh Man In Custody After Violently Resisting Arrest, Striking and Biting Officers

Seventh Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Wantagh man for an Assault that occurred on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 9:38 pm in Wantagh.
 
According to detectives, Community Oriented Police Enforcement (COPE) officers observed a male walking eastbound on Sunrise Highway in the vicinity of the Wantagh State Parkway with an open beer. Officers requested the man’s identification and he refused to comply. The subject struck the officer’s head with a closed fist and a struggle ensued. 
 
While attempting to arrest the male, he violently resisted and bit an officer’s left knee multiple times. 
 
John Eidenweil, 55, of 3442 Lufberry Avenue was subdued and placed under arrest.
 
Due to the defendant’s violent conduct, both officers were injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation. The defendant was also transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
 
Defendant Eidenweil is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Possession of an Open Alcohol Container. He will be arraigned on Monday, November 14, 2022 at First District Court, Hempstead.
