AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The Nassau County Highway Patrol Bureau reports the arrest of a Highland Mills man for Driving While Intoxicated which occurred on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 4:20 A.M. in East Meadow.

East Meadow, NY - November 17th, 2014 - The Nassau County Highway Patrol Bureau reports the arrest of a Highland Mills man for Driving While Intoxicated which occurred on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 4:20 A.M. in East Meadow.

According to Police, the defendant Christian Delacruz, 37, of Ridge Road was observed by a Third Precinct officer assigned to the department’s DWI Alcohol Related Incident Team operating his 1998 BMW southbound on the sidewalk of northbound Carmen Avenue.  Then continued onto the roadway in the wrong direction across four lanes causing the officer to swerve and avoid a head-on collision.  The officer conducted a vehicle and traffic stop at which time it was determined that Delacruz was intoxicated and placed him under arrest.

Delacruz is charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, Reckless Driving, Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated (BAC + .08), Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd degree and multiple traffic infractions.  The defendant was arraigned on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
