AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Two Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers rescued a woman who was attempting to commit suicide by jumping off the Robert Moses Bridge this morning.

West Islip, NY - November 18th, 2013 - Two Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers rescued a woman who was attempting to commit suicide by jumping off the Robert Moses Bridge this morning.

Officers Don Lettieri and Kevin Krause were on patrol in a vehicle near the bridge when a passerby alerted them to a woman on the bridge at approximately 10:55 a.m. At about the same time, the family of the woman called 911 after seeing a Facebook post indicating the woman had planned suicide at that location today. When Lettieri and Krause arrived, they discovered the woman’s car on the bridge and saw the woman attempting to climb over the bridge wall. The officers quickly grabbed her and pulled her to safety.

The woman, 43, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for evaluation.
