Albany, NY – November 15, 2013 – New York State Senator Ken LaValle sent a letter to school superintendents today asking for assistance with the Tuesday November 26 education forum with NY State Education Commissioner Dr. John King.
Excerpts from the Senator's letter are below.
Dear Superintendent:
On November 26, 2013 the State Education Commissioner, Dr. John King, will be visiting the First Senatorial District to discuss the Common Core Curriculum, assessments, APPR, and student privacy. The meeting will be held at Eastport/South Manor High School from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please note that the auditorium holds 1,000 people and seating will be on a first come, first serve basis. However, additional seating will be available in an overflow room where interested parties can watch via closed circuit television. The event will also be live streamed at www.senatorlavalle.com. Simply click on the live stream link.
As many of you are aware, the First Senatorial District is home to more than 30 individual school districts - the most of any senate district on Long Island. In order to ensure that each school district has a voice at this meeting, I am asking you to meet with your various stakeholders – parents, students, teachers, PTAs, etc. and develop comments relating to each individual topic: Common Core Curriculum, assessments, APPR, and student privacy. Please include with your comments the name of the person who will be speaking and his/her affiliation, i.e. parent, student, teacher, administrator. In light of our time constraints, questions will be reviewed ahead of time to eliminate duplication.
Kindly return your questions to ... my office by November 21st and remember to keep any questions/comments to two minutes. Speakers will be chosen and notified, ahead of time. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely yours,
/s
Kenneth P. LaValle
New York State Senator
