The Sag Harbor Partnership is honored to announce the ninth recipient of their annual Community Service award, this year being given to Fred W. Thiele Jr., our New York State Assemblyman for the last 29 years. The award will be given Friday, November 22, 2024 in Sag Harbor NY.
This award, which recognizes outstanding service to Sag Harbor and its community, is being given to Assemblyman Thiele for his decades-long service to Sag Harbor. His contributions have been many, impactful and profound. From defending the East End’s environment to its history and rural values, Mr. Thiele has always been in the forefront of positive change.
Susan Mead and Jayne Young, Co-Presidents of the Partnership, jointly stated that “The Partnership has long wanted to honor Fred with this award. Now that he is leaving the Assembly, we are able to do so. Sag Harbor has been so fortunate that Assemblyman Thiele has been an extraordinary advocate for our district. We have benefitted profoundly from his legislation. It has helped preserve Sag Harbor’s history, environment and will in the future assist with funding for affordable housing. Fred has been a steadfast partner on many initiatives, from the preservation of the Sag Harbor Cinema to the saving of the John Steinbeck house”.
About the Sag Harbor Partnership
In 2012, a group of volunteers banded together to create the Sag Harbor Partnership. These volunteers represent a cross section of Sag Harbor's communities—from Noyack to SANS—and share a love for the village and a desire to ensure its future sustainability and prosperity. Sag Harbor Partnership works with community organizations and Sag Harbor Village government on projects that both preserve and enhance the character of this vibrant place. A list of recent projects includes fundraising for Sag Harbor Fire Department’s new fireboat, support for Steinbeck Park, the Sag Harbor Water Quality Initiative, buying and rebuilding the Sag Harbor Cinema, helping to fund Mashashimuet Park’s new playground, SANS preservation, new bike racks for Main Street, the Mask Project, and Historic Walking Tours of Sag Harbor.
