Details are scant but Sony Pictures has put out a casting call for a new character to appear in a new Karate Kid movie starring OG karate kid Ralph Machhio and martial arts superstar Jackie Chan, who played Kung Fu master Mr. Han in the reboot of the Karate Kid in 2010.

An open casting call for the role on the Sony website says they are looking for the “next Karate Kid.” A page on Sony’s website says they are looking for an actor to portray Chinese or mixed-race Chinese and between 15 to 17-years-old, speaks fluent English with conversational Mandarin is a strong plus.

“He's smart, scrappy and a skilled martial artist,” the call says.

A video also posted to the Sony Pictures YouTube page has both Macchio and Chan talking about the casting call.

Ralph Machhio, who lives in Miller Place on Long Island, has seen a big success with the Netflix revival of the Karate Kid franchise reprising his role as Daniel LaRusso in the streaming service’s Cobra Kai, alongside former nemesis now frenemy, William Zabka who plays Johnny Lawrence.

No details about the new movie are available yet and it’s unclear if Chan is playing a new character or some version of the role he played in the 2010 film version of the Karate Kid.
