Mangano Supports Veterans At Annual "Winter Stand Down"

Freeport, NY - November 24, 2015 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano (2nd from the left) and the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency, United Veterans Organization, and volunteers from a multitude of service organizations today hosted a Winter Stand Down at the Freeport Armory. Veterans in attendance were offered free food, haircuts, medical screenings, as well as assistance in securing benefits, job counseling, and legal advice.

“My administration is committed to providing a better life for our veterans,” said County Executive Mangano. “The level of assistance our Nassau County Veterans Service Agency provides has resulted in our hometown heroes receiving an unprecedented level of benefits. I urge all veterans to contact the Veterans Service Agency to ensure they are receiving all of the benefits they are entitled to, as well as to receive information on upcoming workshops, job fairs, stand downs and housing opportunities. If you serve, you deserve!”

Representatives from Nassau County government agencies participated including the Departments of Social Services, Health, and Human Services, as well as The Salvation Army, the New York State Department of Labor, The Department of Veterans Affairs, New York State Division of Veterans Affairs and The Red Cross.

County Executive Mangano thanked teenager Matt Perez of Oceanside for collecting non-perishable food valued at $307 which was distributed to veterans in need at the event.
