Police Officer Revives 10-Year-Old Who Was Found Unresponsive at School Playground in Brentwood

Brentwood, NY - November 25, 2015 - A Suffolk County Third Precinct Officer revived a boy who was unresponsive at a playground in Brentwood today.

Police responded to a call of a 10-year-old boy who was found unresponsive at Laurel Park Elementary School at approximately 2:45 p.m. Third Precinct Patrol Officer John McAuley, a member of the SCPD Medical Crisis Action Team (MEDCAT) arrived minutes later and realized the boy was pulseless and not breathing. A school nurse began chest compressions while Officer McAuley began ventilations using a Bag Valve Mask (BVM) device. They continued CPR for approximately two minutes at which time the boy regained consciousness and his pulse and breathing were restored.

The Brentwood Legion Ambulance arrived and transported the boy to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in stable condition.
