Discover Long Island  (DLI),  the region’s only accredited destination marketing organization, announces the launch of its latest initiative to drive year-round economic activity through tourism promotion, "Long Island Like a Local,” aimed at shining a spotlight on the hyper local, unique appeal of Suffolk County’s many downtowns, events, attractions and parks. Designed to appeal to lifelong residents, visitors who are “home for the holidays” and even first-time visitors, this new one-stop location for local tourism information highlights the hidden gems and community information that locals care about and visitors find uniquely interesting.

A key feature of this campaign is the creation of a dedicated Hyper Local landing page on the Discover Long Island website. This comprehensive guide will offer in-depth insights into what to do and where to go in each Suffolk County downtown, highlighting the unique personalities, local businesses, cultural experiences, and dining options that define each community. The new community resource also provides itinerary suggestions for staycations, a shop small guide and experts from Discover Long Island’s weekly segments on News12 Long Island’s popular “East End” series.

“Discover Long Island is keenly aware that our most important ‘visitors’ are right here on Long Island and this new ‘Long Island Like a Local’ initiative speaks directly to our desire to ensure our residents have the information and resources needed to support our local downtowns and small businesses this holiday season and throughout the year,” said Discover Long Island President & CEO, Kristen Reynolds. “We have always provided information on Long Island attractions and events, but this new effort digs deeper into hyper local information such as farmer’s markets, historical societies, parks and local theater through event listings, curated itineraries, videos and blog content and reminds local residents that, no matter how long you’ve lived here, there’s always something new to discover on Long Island. The great news is that this type of information also appeals to non-local visitors seeking authentic and immersive experiences.”

Highlighting Suffolk County Parks & Recreation

In addition to its focus on downtown areas, DLI’s new "Long Island Like a Local" campaign will place a special emphasis on parks and recreational activities, with a spotlight on Suffolk County Parks. Whether it’s hiking the scenic trails of Blydenburgh Park, enjoying the beach at Smith Point County Park, camping at Cedar Point County Park or exploring the beauty of the Cranberry Bog Nature Preserve, the county’s parks provide an opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy Long Island’s natural beauty year-round.

Driving Year-Round Tourism

This campaign is part of Discover Long Island’s ongoing effort to promote Long Island as a year-round destination. By highlighting the unique features of Suffolk County’s downtowns and parks, the campaign seeks to encourage both day trips and longer stays, driving tourism beyond the famed summer season and attracting both locals and visitors to explore Long Island's diverse communities. Promotional efforts include paid marketing, earned media through proactive story pitching and social media marketing designed to drive engagements on the website.
