Sayville Man Accused of Driving Drunk after Seriously Injuring Motorcyclist in Crash
Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after his vehicle crashed into and seriously injured a motorcyclist in Sayville.
Michael Hynes was driving a 2019 Honda Civic northbound on Railroad Avenue when he attempted to turn left onto Depot Street and crashed into a southbound 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at approximately 9:05 p.m. on November 24.
The motorcyclist, Alberto Fernandez, 63, of Sayville, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries. Hynes was transported to the same hospital with minor injuries. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
Fifth Squad detectives charged Hynes, 53, of 171 Loop Drive, Sayville, with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 25.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
