SCPD Arrest Man for Driving with License That Was Suspended 49 Times

Lake Grove, NY - November 28th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for driving with a license that was suspended 49 times.
 
Highway Patrol Officer Matthew Dewitt was on routine patrol when he observed a man driving a 2002 Buick speeding and not wearing a seatbelt on Sunrise Highway westbound by exit 56, Station Road at approximately 2:10 p.m. Officer Dewitt initiated a traffic stop.
 
Investigation revealed the driver, James Tomassi, license was suspended 49 times. He had received 34 separate tickets on 16 different dates.
 
Tomassi, 32, of Lake Grove was charged with Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. He was also given tickets for not wearing a seatbelt and speeding.  The vehicle was impounded.
 
Tomassi is being held at the Fifth Precinct in Patchogue, and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 28.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
