Written by Lon Cohen  |  30. November 2021

In September, the Town of Islip celebrated the opening of their new Animal Shelter and Adopt-A-Pet Center. The 17,727 square foot space is a state-of-the-art, ADA compliant facility with a larger lobby area, additional viewing rooms, a cattery, ample parking, energy efficient lighting, dedicated outdoor play areas for dogs, 82 kennels and a separate area for aggressive dogs. The new shelter also includes a 1,000 square foot surgical suite, exam room and a veterinarian’s office.

The new facility replaces the Islip’s previous shelter which was built in 1964.

“We are proud of this new environmentally conscious facility which provides more space for the animals as well as for the staff,” said Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
