Underprivileged Westbury Kids Get to "Shop with a Cop" for the Holidays

Written by Chris Boyle  |  01. December 2022

County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Commissioner of Police Patrick Ryder and the Nassau County Police Department Foundation have announced “Shop with A Cop”, an annual event that pairs 50 deserving children from the Westbury School District with police officers who will assist them with holiday shopping.

The Shop with A Cop program helps foster strong community relationships, as children from the Westbury area shopped with police officers from Community Affairs, PAL, Homeland Security, COPE, POP Units and Super Heroes in costume for holiday gifts for their families. The NCPD Foundation and Target are generously donated $150 per student for this shopping spree.

Fifty Westbury elementary students were identified by their respective schools as meeting the criteria for this event. The children and a guidance counselor from each school were transported in NCPD Department vehicles to the Target in Westbury on Thursday, December 1 at 10 a.m. by Police Officers from Community Affairs.

A welcoming celebration with the NCPD LEO the LION and Police Officers dressed as superheroes kicked off the event, followed by refreshments and a shopping spree. Upon completion, the students were returned to their schools by police officers.
