Historical Holiday: How Yaphank Celebrated Christmas Back in the Day
In some ways we celebrated Christmas and enjoyed wintertime differently today than we did in the old days. In other ways, it’s still the same. Either way, luckily, there are photos like these from the Yaphank Historical Society to show us how Long Islanders celebrated the holidays in the past.

William J. Weeks was known as an accomplished skater and skated on Yaphank Lake. This photo is from circa 1890.

The Yaphank Presbyterian Church built in 1851, was a landmark on West Main Street, but sadly, burned down in 2013.
