Halal and acai bowls have become, independently, hugely popular food trends on Long Island. Halal spots are sprouting up all over the area - spurned by the popularity of the trucks found in New York City for decades. The health benefits of acai bowls have been touted for years now.
Halal Girls and Acai Bowls, a newly opened spot in Huntington combines both.
They offer chicken, lamb, fish, and falafel platters ($7) and wraps ($6), as well as burgers and other sandwiches ($7-$8). Then there’s the acai bowls ($8).
Why Halal Girls? In their review, Newsday says it’s a dash of marketing ploy and a portion of true fact in that it's partly women-owned.
On Yelp, Sophia S., from Farmingdale, called the food amazing.
“This is so unique and different from other gyro spots because they put chipotle and fries on it,” she wrote.
Ana R., of Huntington, says she gets the food delivered once a week.
“The portions are filling and very affordable,” she said. “Highly recommend the falafel, super crispy and delicious.”
Seethal J., from Queens, said it’s “a nice ‘grab and go’ kind of place.”
“There isn't any room to sit and eat which is fine,” she wrote. “The service was nice. The guy behind the counter was socially distant and polite. The food was good too... I will definitely return!”
