AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Drop-off Locations Across State for New Yorkers to Donate Toys, Coats and School Supplies to Children Throughout New York.

Albany, NY - December 6, 2013 - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today launched a statewide toy, coat and school supplies holiday giving drive to benefit families in need throughout New York.

"New Yorkers have a long tradition of generosity and charity, particularly during the holidays when we have always come together to support our neighbors and those who need our help the most,” said Governor Cuomo. “As we celebrate with family and friends this holiday season, I encourage all New Yorkers to remember those less fortunate and pitch in whatever they are able by donating clothing, toys, or school supplies to help bring some much-needed relief and cheer to families in need.”

 

The Office of General Services (OGS) has set up drop-off locations across the state for businesses and individuals to bring the toys, coats and school supplies, which will be distributed to families in underserved communities throughout the state.
