Moriches, NY - December 6, 2013 - William Floyd Middle School (WFMS) recently held a community breakfast with elected, community and business leaders to highlight some of the school’s achievements and continue to build upon the school-community partnerships that currently exist. Held in the school library, community leaders were greeted by the sounds of the WFMS orchestra and had the opportunity to view student showcases on display including various art, science, foreign language and mathematics projects.
During the breakfast, WFMS Principal Carolyn Schick spoke about the current successes of her students and detailed the story of a former student with some family problems whom she took under her wing. As a result of the efforts of Principal Schick and others, the student is now flourishing as an AnBryce Scholar at New York University. “Her story turned out beautifully because of the efforts of her school and community,” she said. “Each person can be the difference in the lives of children.”
Principal Schick also viewed this breakfast, the first in what she hopes to be an annual event, as a show of appreciation to the community for all that they do and the support that they provide the students. “We want the community to see our students as we see them – smart and productive,” said Principal Schick, who also left the community with a challenge: “How can our students continue to make a positive difference in our community?”
