Pedestrian Seriously Injured after Being Struck By School Bus

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a pedestrian motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a Bay Shore man this afternoon.

The school bus had two occupants in addition to the driver. They were not injured.

Islip, NY - December 6, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a pedestrian motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a Bay Shore man this afternoon.

Michael Haug was walking east on Main Street and crossing at Ocean Avenue in Islip when he was struck by a 2015 International school bus. The bus was traveling westbound on Main Street and attempting a left turn onto Ocean Avenue at approximately 4:30 p.m. when the incident occurred.

Haug, 64, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was in serious condition. The driver of the school bus, Richard Cousin, 41, of Bay Shore, and two occupants on the bus were not injured.

A safety check on the vehicle was conducted at the scene and the investigation is continuing.  Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
