New York State Police Arrested 215 People for Impaired Driving Over Thanksgiving Holiday

New York, NY - December 7, 2018 - The New York State Police today announced that it issued a total of 15,115 tickets statewide during this year’s special Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period.
 
The Thanksgiving enforcement period began on Wednesday, November 21 and continued through Sunday, November 25, 2018.
 
During the campaign, which was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices.
 
Troopers arrested 215 people for DWI and investigated 1,244 accidents, including one fatality.
 
As part of the enforcement, Troopers also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state. Below is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued.
 
  • Speeding: 5,834
  • Distracted Driving: 774
  • Seatbelt violations: 485
  • Move Over Law: 218
During the 2017 Thanksgiving holiday enforcement campaign, the State Police issued 15,360 total tickets and arrested 242 people for DWI.
