AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Update - December 11th, 2013 at 1:20 PM - The male victim who was fatally shot has been identified as Benjamin Palemon, 21 years of age from North Valley Stream.
 
Update - December 10th, 2013 at 1:15 PM - The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of Joshua Geddes, age 23 of 225-16 109th Avenue Queens Village for the above listed crime. The defendant was charged with Murder 2nd Degree and Violation of Parole. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. The investigation is ongoing.
 
North Valley Stream, NY - December 10th, 2013 - Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a Homicide that occurred on December 9, 2013 at 5:57 pm in N. Valley Stream.
 
According to detectives, officers responded to a call for a male, possibly shot, lying on the sidewalk in the vicinity of 18 Charles Street. The 21 year old male, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 6:40 pm by a staff physician.
 
A second male, 22, who was located a short distance away, was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, was transported to an area hospital and was admitted for treatment. He is listed in guarded condition.
 
The investigation into this incident continues.
