Westbury Man Arrested for DWI with Two 5 Year-Olds in Back Seat, Police Say

Old Westbury, NY - December 11, 2017 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Westbury man for Driving While Intoxicated which occurred Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11:42 pm in Old Westbury.
 
According to police, the defendant, Rudit Santos, 50, was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban eastbound on Old Country Road and failed to signal a left turn. After initiating a traffic stop, the officer observed the defendant to be intoxicated, with his son (5) and nephew (5) in the rear seats.
 
The children were released to a relative. 
 
Defendant Santos is charged with two (2) counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, child under 16, under Leandra’s Law, Driving While Intoxicated, two (2) counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, two (2) counts of Operation of Vehicle without Restraints and Failure to Signal. He was arraigned Saturday, December 9, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
