AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Pedestrian Killed in Motor Vehicle Crash in Lindenhurst

The crasch occured on West Hoffman Avenue between South Broadway and South 4th Street.

Lindenhurst, NY - December 12, 2013 - Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian last night.
 
Xu Jingeng was attempting to cross West Hoffman Avenue between South Broadway and South 4th Street at approximately 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a westbound 2006 Lexus, driven by Agnieszka Chelchowski.
 
Jingeng, 48, of 94 West Hoffman Ave., Lindenhurst, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead. Chelchowski, 34, of Lindenhurst, was not injured.
 
The Lexus was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
