AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: Nassau, Suffolk. until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Long Island, NY - December 13, 2017 - The year 2017 has been an extraordinary one.  So much so, it has inspired the Fair Media Council to unveil a new program called the Newsmaker of the Year Awards.
 
“The program is designed to recognize true leaders, those who step up when the easy thing would be to simply step aside,” said Jaci Clement, CEO and Executive Director of the Fair Media Council. “The bold, fearless ones who have helped shape 2017 on every level are who we are looking to recognize.
 
Entries are due by Jan. 26. Nominations may be made for oneself as well as for others. There is no entry fee, and no age requirement. Candidates may work in any industry and reside anywhere. A 500-word essay on why the candidate deserves such distinction is necessary, as is a bio. Links to media coverage are recommended, but not required.
