Special Weather Statement issued December 24 at 3:35AM EST by NWS Upton NY A fast moving system will bring a band of light snow to the area this morning. A coating to less than 1 inch of snow accumulation is forecast. Roads will become snow covered due to the recent cold weather resulting in slippery travel conditions. Anyone planning to travel should use extra caution. The accumulating snow will quickly come to an end late morning through midday with temperatures rising into the middle and upper 30s in the afternoon.

Nightly Closures Slated for Long Island Expressway for Bridge Deck Renewal Project Starting Dec. 13

I-495 at Huntington's exit 48 is slated to be closed in both directions on a nightly basis from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting on Wednesday, Dec. 13 until lasting until Friday, Dec. 22.

Motorists who are traveling on the Long Island Expressway in Huntington can expect delays and detours in the near future due to nightly closures that are slated for that section of the thoroughfare, according to the NYS Department of Transportation.
 
I-495 at Huntington's exit 48 is slated to be closed in both directions on a nightly basis from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting on Wednesday, December 13 until lasting until Friday, December 22.
 
The closures are to allow Repair crews to work on a bridge deck renewal project; during the period of time when the LIE is closed at exit 48, drivers will be able to use a detour on the ajoining service road.
 
Motorists are cautioned to expect potential delays, and are reminded that fines for speeding and work zones are doubled.
