Shirley, NY - December 16th, 2014 - The William Floyd varsity lacrosse team and the Moriches Elementary School Student Council recently held their second annual food drive at the Stop & Shop in Shirley to benefit the Mastics and Shirley Community Food Pantry. Thanks to their efforts and the generosity of the community, they collected several bins of food and monetary donations that will help local families put food on the table during the holiday season.

“Most of these young men have played lacrosse together for more than five years and have become like a family,” said Desmond Megna, head coach of the varsity lacrosse team. “They take pride in their team, school and community and are willing to step up and help with many school and community events.” Coach Megna added, “Having the younger students work hand in hand with the older students provides a great lesson on the importance of giving back, one that the younger students can pass on to their peers."

In addition to the lacrosse team and student council members, students were also joined by a few former lacrosse players and William Floyd alumni. Coach Megna, assistant coach Matthew Miller, along with Moriches Elementary teacher/student council advisor Kellie Megna also participated in the food drive.
