The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory and a Hazardous Weather Outlook for both Long Island and New York City due to an incoming storm. Both advisories will go into effect at 12 AM this evening and will last through 10 AM on Saturday morning.
Long Island and New York City should expect 1-3 inches of snow accumulation and traces of ice accumulation. The snow is expected to fall early on Saturday morning and then switch to freezing rain, potentially causing hazardous driving conditions. By Saturday afternoon, it is predicted that rising temperatures will lead to all precipitation in the area turning into rain. Temperatures will stay in the range between the high 20s and low 30s, suggesting that there will be periods of snow, sleet, and freezing rain.
Reports by the National Weather Service urge drivers to be incredibly careful when heading out on the roads due to potentially limited visibility and slippery roads. To get the latest traffic & road conditions before traveling, visit the LongIsland.com Traffic Center.
