Officials: Bethpage Man Arrested After Assaulting Nassau Police Officer

Bethpage, NY - December 18, 2017 - The Second Squad reports the arrest of a Bethpage man for an Assault that occurred on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 8:50 p.m. in Bethpage.
 
According to detectives, police responded to a disturbance in Farmingdale. Upon arrival, they discovered Thomas Smith, 24, to be intoxicated. They transported him to his residence in a marked RMP for his safety. 
 
Upon arrival at his residence and after exiting the vehicle, the defendant struck a police officer in his head with a closed fist, causing pain and a contusion. Both the defendant and the officer were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for evaluation and treatment.
 
The defendant was charged with Assault 2nd degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
