PSEG Long Island is grappling with the aftermath of a powerful storm that struck the region last night into this morning, bringing strong winds and heavy rain, resulting in scattered power outages across the island. The hardest-hit areas, including the townships of Oyster Bay, North Hempstead, and Huntington, are facing disruptions as crews mobilize to restore electricity.

As of 9 AM, PSEG Long Island reported that 9,673 customers, out of approximately 1.2 million, were without power. Power was restored to over 7,400 customers since midnight.

Dedicated teams, comprising more than 900 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors, and other field personnel, have been working overnight and will continue their efforts until all outages are resolved, according to a report from PSEG Long Island. The support of more than 180 mutual aid high voltage personnel has also been enlisted.

Due to safety concerns, PSEG Long Island emphasizes that crews cannot operate in bucket trucks during high winds.
