According to Lottery officials, James Tinghitella had previously bought a second-place winning ticket for the Mega Millions drawing that originally took place on Tuesday, August 1, but only just recently came forward to claim the prize.
The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 613 Broadhollow Road in Melville.
Tinghitella correctly matched the first five numbers - 08, 24, 30, 45, 61 - as well as the Mega Ball 12. He opted to receive the money in one lump sum, which came to $651,000 after taxes were withheld.
