National Grid Ventures (NGV) employee volunteers are taking action to support Long Island families in need with more than 1,000 holiday gifts including toys, winter apparel and food items for five community organizations that include:
• Salvation Army in Riverhead
• Iglesia Mission Christiana Restauracion Church in Coram
• EAC (Empower. Assist. Care.) Network in Brooklyn
• Pronto of Long Island in Bay Shore
• Hope House Ministries in Port Jefferson
“Every parent wants their children to experience the joy that this time of year is meant to bring,” said Will Hazelip, President of National Grid Ventures, US Northeast. “By partnering with community organizations that have strong connections with Long Island families, we can help alleviate the financial burden during the holiday season and ensure children have presents to unwrap through our Season of Giving Campaign.”
According to Bankr ate’s new Living Paycheck to Paycheck Survey more than one in three workers or 34 percent of American workers are living paycheck to paycheck. People with the lowest incomes, about 43 percent of workers earning under $50,000 a year, tend to experience the highest rates of financial insecurity and say they don’t have enough money left over after covering their expenses to save for future expenses.
Many NGV volunteers also distributed food at the Lighthouse Mission mobile food bank in Port Jefferson to ensure families have access to nutritious, fulfilling holiday meals. As part of our corporate social responsibility efforts, the company will continue to fight food insecurity by donating to area food banks throughout the year.
In addition, employees sponsored Wreaths Across America at the Calverton Cemetery. The funding supported the purchase of 400 wreaths for veterans’ graves to remember and honor the sacrifices of those who served in the US Armed Forces.
In NGV’s Rhode Island service area, employees continued the Season of Giving by donating winter coats, hats and gloves for the United Way of Rhode Island to warm up a cold winter.
