Police: Mineola Man Arrested for Setting Fire to Portuguese Heritage Society Building

Manuel Reis, 59, was responsible for setting the fire and was placed under arrested without incident, cops say.

The Arson Bomb Squad reports the arrest of a Mineola man for an Arson that occurred in Mineola. 
 
According to Detectives, Officers responded to 133 Willis Avenue for an active fire in the basement of the Portuguese Heritage Society. An unknown person poured a flammable substance in the basement window and then set it on fire before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction. The Garden City Fire Department responded and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.
 
After a thorough investigation, Detectives discovered that defendant Manuel Reis, 59, of 36 Berkley Road was responsible for setting the fire and was placed under arrested without incident. 
 
Defendant Manuel Reis is being charged with Arson 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree. He was arraigned at First District Court, 99 Main Street Hempstead.
 
Reis was also arrested on July 14, 2022 for Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, and two counts of Criminal Mischief 4th Degree. He was released with probationary conditions.
