AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Woman Arrested for Attempted Armed Robbery after Struggle with Clerk

Suffolk County Police today arrested a woman for an attempted armed robbery at a 7-Eleven in Coram this morning.

Coram, NY - December 21st, 2013 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a woman for an attempted armed robbery at a 7-Eleven in Coram this morning.
 
Rebecka Diaz entered 7-Eleven, located at 2011 Route 112, at 5:04 a.m. and approached the cashier with items to be rung up. As the clerk began to ring up the items, Diaz, who was wearing a scarf partially covering her face and carrying a backpack, displayed a gun and demanded cash. As the cashier was placing money in the backpack, a male customer entered the store. Diaz placed her gun in the backpack and turned to look at the customer when the cashier grabbed the bag and brought it over the counter. Diaz jumped over the counter in order to retrieve the bag and the clerk tossed it to the customer. Diaz jumped back over the counter again in order to retrieve the bag, and the customer threw it back to the cashier. Diaz jumped over the counter a third time and struggled with the clerk. When she was unable to retrieve the bag, Diaz jumped the counter and fled the store.
 
Upon further investigation, Sixth Squad detectives charged Diaz, 19, of 80 Sequoia Drive, Coram, with Attempted Robbery 1st Degree and Criminal Use of a Firearm 1st Degree. She will be held overnight and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on December 22.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are attempting to identify the male customer who left the scene prior to police arrival. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
