Special Weather Statement issued December 27 at 10:28PM EST by NWS Upton NY A brief period of freezing rain is possible with the onset of rain between 1am and 4am. Temperatures have radiated into the upper 20s to 32 F this evening under clear skies and calm winds. Temperatures are likely to rise just above freezing in most areas by the time of rainfall onset as cloud cover quickly increases. Ground temperatures though, may still linger around freezing in spots through 5am, causing patchy icing of untreated surfaces. Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution traveling tonight, and be alert for patchy black ice, particularly on elevated roadways.

The Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms continue to set new standards of excellence in high school athletics. Their remarkable journey reached unprecedented heights, with an astounding 34 consecutive victories spanning more than three years. This exceptional team logged over 1,100 days without a defeat, demonstrating unprecedented dominance in Suffolk County football.
 
This season, under the outstanding leadership of Coach Mike Zafonte, the top-seeded Phantoms secured their third consecutive Suffolk Division IV Championship with a commanding 49-21 victory over Miller Place at Stony Brook's LaValle Stadium.
 
The team's success is built on exceptional talent across the board and led the Phantoms to their third consecutive Long Island Class IV Championship game, carrying forward a legacy of excellence that has made them not just champions, but standard-bearers for high school athletics in our region.
