Garden City, NY - December 25, 2013 - The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a West Hempstead man for Petit Larceny that occurred in East Garden City on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 1:10 pm.

According to police, Third Precinct Police responded to the Roosevelt Field Mall located at 630 Old Country Road for a 911 call of three males fighting inside of Macy’s Department Store. Upon police arrival they observed multiple people fleeing from the mall stating that gun shots were heard from inside the mall. Numerous more 911 calls were received that caused multiple Police Officers from other precincts to respond.  Further investigation determined that the gun shot sounds heard were the result of a display case that fell over when mall security was attempting to place Aaron Darby, 19, of 424 Scaneateles Avenue into custody for failing to pay for store merchandise at Macy’s. Several people reported minor injuries during the incident.

The defendant Aaron Darby was charged with Petit Larceny. He was released on an Appearance ticket and will appear in First District Court in Hempstead on January 7, 2014.
