AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. New Hyde Park, NY - December 26th, 2013 -  The Arson/Bomb Squad reports the details of a fire that occurred on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in New Hyde Park.

According to detectives, the Lakeville/Manhasset Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at 1111 Marcus Avenue, building 6, for a working fire. Nine fire trucks and approximately 40 fire personnel arrived at the location where they discovered the fire had been extinguished by a fire suppression system in the building. The fire was contained to one room and originated in a garbage pail at one cubicle station in that room. The entire building sustained extensive water damage from the sprinkler system.  The cause of the fire appears to be accidental at this time. The investigation is on going.
