AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Mangano Commends Social Services Employee Of The Month

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano presented a Citation to Farmingdale resident Renee Pearson of the Department of Social Services (DSS) for being named Employee of the Month.

Nassau County, NY - December 28, 2015 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano presented a Citation to Farmingdale resident Renee Pearson of the Department of Social Services (DSS) for being named Employee of the Month. Miss Pearson’s supervisor Arlene Sceri and DSS Commissioner Dr. John Imhof also joined in congratulating Renee on this prestigious accomplishment.

The DSS is committed to strengthening and preserving families by providing financial assistance and services to residents of Nassau County in accordance with state and federal regulations and laws. DSS is dedicated to providing quality service and maintaining the dignity and respect of those they serve. Specifically, the department is responsible to provide aid to eligible recipients through the Family Assistance, Safety Net, Day Care, Employment, Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly called food stamps), Medicaid, and Home Energy Assistance Programs. Establish an initial child support obligation of a legally responsible individual through the Family Court, collect support payments, and enforce and modify existing support orders. Protect children, adults, and families by enforcing the mandates of New York State Social Services Law.

“It takes someone with compassion and dedication to work with DSS clients on a daily basis. I commend Renee Pearson for her commitment to DSS and thank her on behalf of the people of Nassau County who she has aided through our DSS services,” remarked County Executive Mangano.
