The Long Beach Police Department reports that a juvenile humpback whale was discovered washed ashore in Long Beach, New York.
The discovery was made Monday morning, December 30, early in the morning hours, officials say, in the vicinity of the intersection of Shore Road and Roosevelt Boulevard.
The area of the beach where the whale was located was taped off by authorities; following a necropsy to determine the cause of death, the large sea mammal will be properly buried, according to the Long Beach Police, who requested that the public “Please avoid the area to allow the various agencies to conduct their work."
