New York Blood Center (NYBC) and the New York Islanders will be hosting a blood drive on Monday, January 6th from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the UBS Arena. All blood donors at this blood drive will receive a voucher redeemable for two tickets to a select 2025 New York Islanders home game. The Islanders have been long-time supporters and partners of NYBC, hosting blood drives since 2000 and collecting more than 2,600 donations over the past two decades.
January is National Blood Donor Month, which is always a difficult time for the blood supply, with school breaks, holiday travel, seasonal illnesses and inclement weather all contributing to a drop in blood donations. NYBC has seen a nearly 40% drop in donations in the last several weeks, resulting in more than 3,000 fewer donations during a critical time of year.
NYBC and the Islanders invite fans, employees and Long Islanders to donate blood at this year’s blood drive to ensure the region’s blood supply levels stay on track this winter.
Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted several blood donor eligibility restrictions. To view current eligibility guidelines, visit nybc.org or call 800.688.0900.

WHY: It only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can save multiple lives. Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.
