Orient is a hamlet and census-designated place at the tip of the North Fork of Long Islandin the Town of Southold in Suffolk County, New York. The Oysterponds Union Free School District serves the community.
Orient is the easternmost town of The community is interchangeably referred to as Orient and Orient Point, but Orient Point specifically refers to the very end of the North Fork where the lighthouse is located. The community was originally settled by five English families who were given land grants by the King in the 17th Century. The land was used by British forces during the Revolutionary War. Many of the older structures still present in the Orient Historic District have been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
According to the 2010 census, the population of Orient is 743. The median household income is listed as $56,667.
