Rockville Centre is a village in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York. The community is served by the Rockville Center Public School System, as well as the Oceanside and Baldwin School Districts.
In 1643, Sachem Tackapousha, chief of the Rockaways, along with six other chiefs, granted the land, which now encompasses the southern half of Nassau County, to English settlers. The Long Island Railroad was expanded to the village in 1867, and is credited with bringing Rockville Centre to the modern age. The South Shore’s first public high school was opened in Rockville Centre in 1892. By 1929, Rockville Center was considered among Long Island’s leading financial centers.
According to the 2010 census, the population of Rockville Center is 26,646. The median household income is listed $96,007.
