Sagaponack is an incorporated village on the South Frok of Long Island in the Town of Southampton in Suffolk County, New York. The community is served by the Sagaponack School District.
The name of the community comes from the Shinnecock Indian word for “land of the big ground nuts,” actually referring to potatoes. Potato farming was a major industry in the community until the late 20th century when large estates were built on the expansive potato fields. The village is now a major tourist destination on the East End of Long Island, offering distinct cultural, historical beautiful scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean and stunning white sand beaches. In 2009, Sapagonack was listed as the most expensive small town in the United States.
According to the 2010 census, the population of Sag Harbor is 494. The median household income is listed as $86,389.
