Mesothelioma is a cancer that affects the tissue lining the chest cavity and lungs, and in rare cases, the abdominal lining and heart. The most common cause of mesothelioma is asbestos exposure.

Asbestos fibers become stuck in tissues and cause DNA damage. Cells turn into mesothelioma cancerous cells.
