Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA)

Rail workers are exposed to a variety of dangers while working. This is one of the reasons Congress approved the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA). The law exempts them from the state workers' compensation laws. The law also permits the determination of monetary compensation by juries on the basis of negligence in a comparative manner.
