Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA)

Railroad workers are exposed to a variety of risks while on the job. The Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) was enacted by Congress to address this issue. The law exempts them from state laws on workers' compensation. It also allows monetary payouts that are decided by juries based on the comparative negligence.
