Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA)

Railroad workers are exposed to a variety of hazards on the job. This is among the reasons Congress enacted the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA). The law excludes them from state laws on workers' compensation. The law also allows for monetary payouts to be decided by juries based on the evidence of negligence in a comparative manner.
